Our yarn

Our yarns are sourced with care — primarily from Britain, and, in the case of merino, from a small-holding consortium in South America where mulesing is never practiced. Supporting independent farmers, both in the UK and abroad, is at the heart of our ethos.

We work almost exclusively with natural animal fibres, steering clear of nylon whenever possible. For sock knitters, we recommend blends with silk — a remarkable natural fibre that adds strength and durability without sacrificing softness.

From time to time, we introduce new bases, while cherished favourites remain central to our collection. Every skein we offer is one we would be thrilled to knit with ourselves — luxurious in quality, rich in colour, and made to last.

Below, you’ll find details of our core bases, or you can head straight to the shop to browse the colourways currently in stock.

Tweedie 4 Ply

“Heritage reborn: timeless tweed, softened for today.”

We are excited to announce our new yarn range launching this October with a wonderful yarn base that we believe you will also fall in love with.

Inspired by many of the patterns published recently, we were hankering after something that offered a little more woolliness, rustic charm, warmth and traditional vibes. And we’re so very lucky to have some incredible British sheep breeds right on our doorstep that produce just that, incredible woolly yarn!

Tweedie 4 Ply is the first base from our new heritage range; Town & Country to make it's debut this October at the Knit & Stitch Show—and we can’t wait for you to be among the first to experience it in person!

Inspired by the rustic fabrics of Scotland and Ireland—originally designed for warmth and practicality—Tweedie reimagines tradition for today’s maker and celebrates rustic tweed heritage with modern wearability. We’ve opted for next-to-skin soft Merino with naturally coloured neps to capture the rich texture and timeless charm of tweed, while keeping it beautifully wearable.

Each 100g skein holds a generous 400m, making it the perfect choice for your autumn and winter projects.

Merino Singles Sock

100% Merino - High Twist Single Ply

366m / 100g

Deliciously soft and smooth, this yarn is wonderfully warm with excellent stitch definition and an exceptional ability to take dye, producing rich, vibrant shades. I’ve used it for sweaters, hats, and shawls, and it consistently holds its shape without biasing or skewing.

The high twist not only adds strength and durability but also helps stabilise the fabric — my sweaters show little to no pilling even after years of wear.

Versatile and reliable, it’s perfect for sweaters, shawls, hats, scarves, and mitts. I’ve used it successfully in colourwork, where the single-ply construction helps the fibres cling together. (That said, I wouldn’t recommend unsecured steeking.)

MerLin Sock

90% Merino 10% Linen (flax)

366m / 100g

A touch of linen lends this yarn a rustic charm without compromising the delicious softness of merino. The blend creates a fabric with a gentle drape, warm yet breathable, perfect for year-round comfort. Flecks of white linen thread through the yarn, adding a subtle, vintage-inspired character.

Versatile and dependable, it’s ideal for shawls, sweaters (including colourwork yokes), hats, scarves, and more — a wonderful choice for UK summer wear.

Silkie Singles 4 Ply

70% Merino 30% Silk

400m / 100g

Silk and Merino are a perfect pairing. Silk brings strength, lustre, and a luminous sheen, giving the yarn a radiant glow and allowing colours to appear rich and deeply saturated. Merino adds its signature warmth, sophistication, and smooth handle, creating a yarn that feels as exquisite as it looks.

Ideal for shawls, delicate lacework, lightweight sweaters, tops, and tees.
